The Good of Good Friday

O how woeful that day was when mankind crucified the Son of God. Jesus Christ, the Perfect One, hung to the cross, His body naked and broken. The world hated Him, His friends deserted Him, and His Father forsook Him. Yet this is Good Friday. How can this be? What is so good about Good Friday?

Sin's Wage is Paid

Good Friday is good because Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died, freeing us from the penalty of sin. He bore the wrath of the Father in our place, paying the eternal price that we could never pay. The Son lived the life we could never live and paid the debt every man and woman deserve. Through His obedience to death on a cross, the Savior redeemed us from the penalty of sin. Jesus paid it all.

Christ's blood has not only paid for the wages of sin but also redeems us from the power of sin. Because Christ died on the cross, sin no longer has a hold on those washed by the blood. We have been redeemed: no longer slaves to sin, but free children of God.

God's Love is Manifested

Good Friday is good because the Almighty showed His love towards us, His enemies, by sending His only Son to be crucified. The greatest display of the glory of God's love is the cross of Jesus Christ. Through the cross, you and I are able to see a glimpse of the depths and riches and majesty of the Father's love.

Although we were ungodly, sinful rebels, the God of the universe chose to love, forgive, and bless us so that we may be reconciled to Him. We are brought near through the blood of the Son. Our greatest Enemy has become our closest Friend. The lost are loved by the blood of the Lamb.

Sunday is Coming

Good Friday is good because the story does not end at the cross. Despite what some may think, Jesus Christ no longer hangs on a cross. Three days later, the Son of God broke out of the grave, conquering death and proving that He alone is the Messiah, the King of Kings, and the Alpha and Omega.

My friend, because Christ has conquered the grave, you and I have victory over death through Him. Death no longer has victory over us who are in Christ Jesus. Death has lost its sting and its hold on the children of God. We need not fear the grave, for we are the redeemed, washed by the blood, loved by the Father, and resurrected to live forever and ever. Amen.
